Has anyone tried putting a Toshiba MK1214GAH or a Samsung SpinPoint N2
into an ipod video? I found the SpinPoint listed on this website as a
replacement:

http://www.rapidrepair.com/shop/ipod-video-hard-drives.html

According to Toshiba's pretty sparse info on the U.S. website (which
isn't very well maintained), it seems like the MK1214GAH uses a LIF
connector which should be compatible.

Also, I'd like to thank all the developers and other support people
who make Rockbox possible. You people are wonderful. Thank you for
making my DAPs come alive!

I have put a Samsung HS122JC (120 GB) in my video ipod; it is not a
Spinpoint N2 (I think it is N1, but the information is pretty scarce);
I'm not sure that Spinpoint N2 is even available around.

The connector, by the way, should be ZIF (zero insertion force, I
believe), not LIF. And if you haven't checked it out yet, I think this
page would be helpful:

Looks like the N2 has a 160gb version available as well (notice typo
on their page):
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/productmodel.do?group=72&type=60&subtype=68&model_cd=347&tab=fea

Looks like I may be able to get a 160gb ipod running rockbox after
all. It may take a while for this to come available.

Thanks,
Steve

Just be careful that the 160GB may be CEATA inteface (i.e. for the
ipod classics), then you will need some hardware adaptor which very
likely won't fit nicely inside the ipod.

Good luck finding/waiting for one, and I would love to hear it if you
successful run rockbox on a 160GB dap.
