Hi:
Congrats on fixing the one issue with rockbox that bothered me most.
Or perhaps I just couldn't get it to work before. I use rockbox for
podcasts and audiobooks and I had a problem with using the key lock on a
Sansa clip zip, that you really needed two hands to turn off and on the
key lock. The documentation called for an advanced key lock facility,
but I couldn't get it to work. Now it does, so I can have the key lock
and still have a pause unpause and volume control.

I couldn't figure out how to do the update automatically, even if I just
downloaded the bootinstaller as it only showed 3.13 or a development
release and not 3.14.

So I just grabbed the appropriate firmware for clip zip and unzipped and
copied over my existing .rockbox folder. Works fine.

I also like the idea of doubling battery usage on some Sansa products.
Will have to see how that goes.

Again, congratulations on the release. There still is a place for an mp3
player that doesn't require you to look at it to make it work.

Can you try again? There was a problem with the download server not
entirely knowing about 3.14, but that's fixed now.

The servers have been updated for me. I tried rockbox utility again at 5
pm EDT Monday and it now shows the 3.14 release instead of the 3.13
release at 1 am EDT. Quick work.
As to Clip zip, I have no problems.

I updated a Clip Plus and was able to create a voice file but the
player freezes when I try to switch to English US so it'll use the new
voice file.

Hi Rockboxers --

I have a question about the new 3.14 as it might pertain to the (officially
unstable but very usable) iPod Classic 160 GB. My iPod Classic 160 GB is
currently set up with a special rockbox build which allows it to reliably
be mounted on my Macbook. I learned about it originally from this forum
thread:

http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,43493.msg220761.html#msg220761

I'm not technically astute with such things but I understand that it works
by fooling the Macbook into thinking the iPod is not an iPod. At the time
that I installed this build, I had been using Rockbox on this iPod Classic
for a couple of years but was never able to mount it on my Macbook -- I had
to do all my file management via the PC I use at my job. So this special
rockbox build was and continues to be a godsend.

Some of the new features on 3.14 sound really tempting to me. But I'm
wondering if I'll be able to mount my Rockboxed iPod Classic on my Macbook
reliably if I update the iPod Classic to 3.14. I see from the final post on
the thread I linked above that the responsible person is hosting this
special build on a different URL now, and the last iteration of it was on
March 5, so maybe I should just wait until he makes a 3.14 version of it?

Sorry for all the technical details I probably got wrong. Long story short,
I want to continue using my iPod 160 easily on OSX but hope to get access
to the new RB features.

Thanks,

Jon Lewis

Yes, sorry about that. It's been a while since the last release, which
means we forgot some stuff. It'll be fixed as soon as we can get hold of
one of the people with access to the download server.

Hello Jon,

Seeing your email reminded me that we were allocated a block of
USB IDs back in 2015. I built rockbox using one of those IDs for
the ipod6g, see below:

http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,43493.msg239645.html#msg239645

The build there is off the very latest git HEAD (271c30f), and
includes all of the features in 3.14.

Cheers,
Franklin

Hai I want to know that what are the improvements appear in sansa
clipzip after installing rockbox 3.14? I have noticed battery
improvement other than I have tried to read rockbox 3.14 clipzip
document but it is very long, so if anyone noticed any other changes
in clipzip after new update then tell me. thanks

Hi Franklin-- thank you for the response and for creating that build! If I
mount my iPod Classic 160 in its current configuration using Rockbox
Utility, and I have that patch you linked to on my computer, will I be able
to point RB Utility to that patch during the updating process? Or is it
more complex than that?

Thanks,

You don't need my patch at all unless you wish to examine it. All
you need is the .zip file I linked to in the post and below as
well. Just download it and extract it to the root of your ipod,
overwriting any files when prompted.

Fanus, run RBClip as administrator on Windows 10, same with the
Rockbox Utility. So far i believe you can create the talk files with
the Rockbox Utility but not the voice files which seems to be broken.
