I am a visually impaired person. I have a Sansa clip zip MP3 player. I
am trying to restore it back to the factory settings. I want to remove
the bootloader and then rockbox so I can give it to my sighted sister.
however, I keep getting the following error message you see below. What
can I do to resolve this issue Thanks.

List box Rockbox Utility can not uninstall the bootloader on this
target. Try a normal firmware update to remove the booloader.

It's telling you that you need to perform a firmware update according to the
original manufacturer's instructions, rather than anything to do with Rockbox.

The original firmware will include the bootloader, and this will enable the
device to start up as the manufacturer originally intended.

I'm presuming that Rockbox can't do this for you because (a) it had to over-
write something to get its own bootloader installed, and (b) it can't put a
copy of the original bootloader back onto the device for copyright and
licensing reasons.

Antony.

Another individual actually told me that. I went back and re-read his email because I forgot his instructions. However, thanks very much for your assistance.

In the rockbox manual for our player you can read the following:

"You can uninstall Rockbox automatically by using Rockbox Utility. If
you installed Rockbox manually you can still use Rockbox Utility for
uninstallation but will not be able to do this selectively."

I don't know how accessible the Rockbox utility is, so maybe the manual
way is what you want:

"Copy an unmodified original firmware to your player, and then reboot
into the Sandisk firmware."

Otherwise you can find the paragraph in the manual under the following link:

https://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-sansaclipzip/rockbox-buildch2.html#x3-190002.5

Greetings

Bernhard

Why bother ? I have got a Clip zip, I am sighted and I use rockbox instead of original firmware. By the way you don't have to get rid of rockbox to be able to start in original firmware. Start your clip zip by pressing power button and left key on the pad simultaneously, that will do the job.
It's all in the manual by the way, and your sister could read it.

I have already updated the sensa firmware. But I also had a memory card in there and I prior to the firmware update I took out The memory card according to instructions and then when everything was updated I put the memory card back again but when I want to format the memory card I couldn’t do it I probably need to take it out of the player and put it in the computer somewhere that has a card reader? Right?

Yes, your computer most likely has an SD slot, where you can connect the
memory card using a MicroSD to SD adapter. Then you can just format like
normal.

I lost that little adapter tray that goes in the computer so you can put a card in there so I will need to find another computer later. I might just let my sister worry about that herself. At least the player. has eight gigs so that should be quite enough to get her started even without the 4 gig USD card. Thanks guys for all your help I appreciate it.

4 gig is nothing nowadays. Your sister will find 32 gig cards at a ridiculously low price on internet, especially considering the clipzip does not need a fast card. A cheap noname card will do, as well as a bottom of the range branded one.

You lost the adapter so you need a new computer. How about I send you a replacement adapter and you send me the old computer ? Seriously you will get the adapter with the card on internet for close to nothing if you pick a small one.
