Ipod Mini & Rockbox

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the list today.

I recently learned that Rockbox can be used with an Ipod Mini. My goal is
to install Rockbox. I've got a few problems to fix before I can install
Rockbox.

I was using Anapod Explorer. I had a friend help with installation and
setting up my Ipod. I am having problems that I believe need to be fixed
before I can go forward.

When using Anapod, I was always careful to connect, disconnect, and eject
the Ipod. I transferred quite a bit of music this week. After ejecting the
Ipod, it played several songs and I have not been able to get it to work
since. Apparently, the computer is not listing the device in My Computer,
Anapod Explorer cannot find it, and uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes,
Apple Updates, and Anapod Explorer have not helped. At this point, my goal
is to get Rockbox going. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Lynda

Hi Linda,

You do need for your computer to recognize the iPod as a drive when
you plug it in before you can install Rockbox. I wonder if there's
something wrong with your battery - it won't play music and the
computer doesn't recognize it. If you have a separate charger, I
would suggest charging the battery with it and seeing if that
helps. You've probably already thought of that, but I figured I'd
mention it in case you hadn't.

Cheers,
Anna

Hi Lynda: Have you tried a hard reset of the iPod Mini? Hold down the Select
(center) button and the Menu button together for about five seconds, and the iPod
will do a complete restart. If you have it plugged into the wall charger at the same
time then it should begin charging. A low battery may be contributing to your
problem.

Mine's about two years old, and in the last three months or so the battery life has
reduced to about three hours of playing time per charge...

I've also had problems with a corrupt FAT32 filesystem. Once Windows again
recognizes your iPod as a drive then try running Scandisk on it. Logical file system
errors can be fixed, and you don't want to install Rockbox until your file system is
healthy.
